Abstract

The history of automation and computerization of Armenian libraries fulfilled
its 25 years - a short time for a human measurement. During this period of time Armenia became an independent state, moved from the centralized economy management system to the market based economy, integration processes with European Union structures are in an active phase. Libraries are also in a renovation and cardinal reconstruction process. This article presents the history of the library automation in Armenia from its beginnings, describes the evolution and challenges faced by the library community on its difficult way to the digitization. Could happen that I haven't described some facts and events in more details, or even, I haven't mentioned about them. I hope that those knowledgeable about these details will forgive such type of omissions, which can take place in such brief overview article.
