Abstract

The presentation analyzes the results of the National Library of Armenia’s 2021 nationwide library survey, which aimed to measure the current physical, operational and cultural state of Armenia’s libraries. The data will be compared with results from library surveys around the world in an attempt to understand Armenia’s place within the global library field. Finally, the presentation identifies the major gaps in Armenia’s library system and provide recommendations for improvement of the country’s library field moving forward.

  • LAURIE ALVANDIAN , National Library of Armenia

    Laurie Alvandian is an Armenian-American Librarian and Library Advocate based in Yerevan. She currently works as a Lead Specialist in the National Library of Armenia’s International Relations Department. In her spare time, she runs the social media project “(De)construct the Library” which aims to deconstruct outdated perceptions of librarianship and build a new future for Armenia’s libraries. She earned her master’s degree in Information and Library Science from Pratt Institute in 2012.
