Abstract

The Nicomedia province of the Ottoman Empire was one of the important centers of Armenian printing and Armenian periodicals. Four main settlements of the province have Armenian printing houses. There were two Armenian printing houses operating in Nicomedia province, but they didn’t publish Armenian books, only five newspapers. The printing house of the famous St. Charkhapan Monastery of Armash was founded in 1863 and has published more than 15 religious, educational, literary and historical books. The newspaper “Huys” (Hope) was published there as well. More than 15 Armenian periodicals were published in Partizak. Dozens of books and textbooks, as well as newspapers and periodicals were published in Adapazar printing house.
