Abstract

In 1921, the library of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin Seminary was closed. The collection that was formed over the centuries was divided and a number of Yerevan libraries hosted the collection. A significant part of the collection, about 4000 books, 800 diaries, magazines, and periodicals were transferred to the Yerevan State Pedagogical Institute (since 2000 Armenian State Pedagogical University after Kh. Abovyan). The books of the Mother See Matenadaran were transferred to the university library by the first library head Mushegh Gasparyan. Rare books were counted and numbered several times with different indexes. In the end they got a unified numbering. The Armenian books received the indexes 1-6000, Russian books 1-3000 and Armenian periodicals 1-800.
