In some orphanages and care centers, staff structure includes a librarian position. However, library work in such institutions is significantly different from the work carried out in school, community or other known libraries. Particularly, there are centers where users are people who need special education, where employees’ responsibilities are not limited to book service or providing favorable conditions in the library. Especially in orphanages, where children live, learn and engage in life activities from a very young age, the librarian’s work has a more pedagogical nature. In addition to being guided by the accepted standards of the library system, the librarian working in the mentioned institutions must be able to utilize pedagogical methods within the scope of their abilities and skills, having knowledge of various subjects and imparting it depending on the user’s individual abilities. Stunning data and information illustrating the activity of the specialist are presented, along with practical examples that will be beneficial to librarians working in this field.
